Workshop in “Scientific communication in practice”, 04-06 March 2026
A Science Communication Workshop was held on 4–6 March 2026 in Larissa, Greece, within the framework of “ROOT BENEFIT” COST action. The workshop brought together a diverse group of participants, including researchers, students, industry professionals and science communication experts from across Europe to explore practical approaches for communicating scientific knowledge to broader audiences.
The program combined expert-led sessions with hands-on activities. Invited speakers introduced key principles of science communication, including audience engagement, storytelling, and the use of digital and immersive tools to translate complex scientific concepts into accessible forms.
A central activity of the workshop was the visit to Terra Immersia in Meteora, where participants experienced the exhibition “Immerse in Meteora”. The exhibition demonstrated how complex scientific, historical and cultural content can be communicated through immersive storytelling, structured around four thematic axes: history, science, art and adventure.
Building on both the theoretical input and the immersive experience, participants took part in a collaborative workshop session. Using a structured methodology, they worked in groups to define communication objectives, identify target audiences, and develop narrative approaches for presenting their research. Scientific visual material was projected throughout the session to maintain an immersive environment and support creative thinking.
Participants mapped their research topics across thematic axes inspired by a curatorial approach, exploring how their work could be translated into engaging formats for broader audiences. The workshop concluded with a summary of key ideas, discussion of next steps, and planning of future dissemination activities within the COST Action.
